Many of Galen Rowell's images are stunning, and I absolutely agree that having an image worth printing is more important than starting with a large size original. I tried leaving them under a heavy book overnight, but this made no discernible difference. "recording" film which was made on an "Estar" base and (IIRC) was always curly AF.

I pulled some decent wet darkroom prints out of it. The exact resolution of 35mm film based on digital pixels is unknown, since film does not use pixels to define resolution. I have actually enlarged them much larger from slides without any noticeable grain or noise.
