This research investigates the generation of small (diameter <100 mum) and large (diameter >200 mum) tin drops on-demand with a pneumatic droplet generator. Droplet generator operating parameters such as the nitrogen supply pressure, the electronic pulse width used to open the solenoid valve and the amount of liquid metal within the droplet generator are studied by photographing drop generation and by recording the pressure variation within the droplet generator cavity.Large tin drops on-demand are generated with a diameter that ranges from 200% to 270% of the nozzle diameter while small tin drops on-demand are produced with a diameter that ranges from 20% to 80% of the nozzle diameter.Oxidation of tin greatly affects drop generation. Oxidation effects are minimal when generating large tin drops on-demand at an oxygen level below 500 ppm. There can be no small drop generation at an oxygen level above 150 ppm.
